Fans created thousands of tributes—balloons, scarves, flowers—outside the Main Stand of Anfield, making poignant tribute. Liverpool Mayor Steve Rotheram and Deputy PM Angela Rayner also visited the throng, Rayner calling the news “heartbreaking” and making comment on the tragedy following Jota’s recent marriage and his new father role.
Rotheram admitted he thought the rumours were untrue at first, his own reaction being one of “absolute devastation”.

The Guardia Civil is investigating a tyre burst as the probable cause.
Both bodies of victims have been taken to Zamora Forensic Institute to be identified through fingerprints and DNA analysis. Castilla y León authorities have sent a support team offering psychological counseling and multilingual advice to the grieving family.
